The FIDIC 2005 survey (see results)
on the implementation in the consulting industry of a FIDIC Business
Integrity Management System (BIMS®, see www.fidic.org/bims)
confirmed that many firms of all sizes and in most countries had
implemented a BIMS or were considering to do so. The results ensured that
the multilateral development banks, other international agencies and most
clients were under increased pressure to recognize efforts by firms to
stamp out corruption.
In order to maintain the pressure, it was important that FIDIC continued to
survey the uptake of BIMS. All consulting firms were
asked once again by their national FIDIC Member Associations to indicate
if they have implemented a BIMS or were considering doing so. Some firms will
have already responded to the 2005 survey. They were asked to respond once
more to confirm that its BIMS is being maintained.
Results of the 2007 survey were reported at the FIDIC 2007 Singapore Conference,
9-13 September, www.fidic2007.org.
All respondents will be sent the final report.
It should be noted that clearcut evidence of the implementation of a BIMS
was required for the 2007 survey (e.g., the implementation of at least one
BIMS procedure). By contrast, the 2005 survey required a much more
subjective assessment of whether a BIMS had been implemented. Hence the
increase between 2005 and 2007 in the number of firms reporting a
BIMS was perhaps not as marked as could be expected. To date, therefore,
there are 78 firms reporting the implementation of a BIMS that follows
FIDIC guidelines.
