The Terms of Reference are:
- To expand the acceptance and application of Project Sustainability Management (PSM) with related industry organizations, funding agencies, non-government organizations, and United Nations agencies, making PSM the accepted standard for setting sustainable development project goals and metrics.
- To identify and select appropriate industry organizations, funding agencies, non-government organizations, and United Nations agencies to work with in the further development of the practical application of sustainability principles in support of Item 1, above, beginning in early 2005.
- To develop and execute a systematic communication and educational program in the form of papers, presentations and seminars, in order to accomplish Item 1, above, beginning in early 2005.
- To devise a business model for the implementation and adoption of PSM. What revenue streams could be created for FIDIC if PSM is adopted by the consulting engineering industry, its clients and its stakeholders, similar to LEED or BREEAM? What is the required investment? What timing of the investments and expected revenues? What are the risks? Begin this effort in early 2005. Test and modify throughout 2005.
- To encourage and sponsor conferences and workshops to advance PSM inside the consulting engineering community, in client organizations and in other stakeholder organizations. This is planned for late 2005 and early 2006, depending on the success and acceptance of Items 1 and 2.
- To start a knowledge base of projects accomplishments and technology advances relative to sustainable development, from which to share best practices and lessons learned, beginning in 2005.
- To encourage the incorporation of PSM principles and practices into industry policies and procedures, procurement documents, and quality assurance programs, beginning in mid 2005.
