About FIDIC - Members
 Types of Members

Member Association: a national association which is the largest association of firms providing technology-based intellectual consulting services for the built and natural environment in a country.

Affiliate Member: any association, organisation, firm or groups of firms which is based in a country having or not having a Member Association, and which supports the objectives of the Federation. This membership category is aimed at  commercial organizations which aim to maintain a close contact with FIDIC and to support the federation's activities.

Associate Member: any individual, organisation, association, firm or groups of firms which is based in a country not having a Member Association, and which has a major part of its activity in the engineering consulting industry. This membership category is aimed at organizations that aims to become a FIDIC national Member Association.

The general principles for FIDIC membership are that:

  • there can only be one national member organization per country;
  • if a Member Association exists in a country and a company or organization qualifies to join this Member Association, then the company or organization cannot be an Affiliate or Associate Member of FIDIC.

A company or organization will generally belong directly to FIDIC (usually as an Affiliate, but possibly as an Associate in a special case, if:

  • there is no national Member Association in the country; or
  • the company or organisation is not eligible to join a national Member Association, but qualifies for membership in FIDIC (e.g., an international law firm that works extensively with the consulting engineering industry internationally).

Details of membership procedures are available for Member Associations and for the other membership categories (Affiliate; Associate).

 Member Association

Download a two-page brochure in PDF describing benefits that member firms of FIDIC national Member Associations derive from FIDIC.

FIDIC’s membership currently numbers some 78 Member Associations from all over the world.

These Member Associations represent consultants supplying technology-based intellectual services for the built and natural environment, and are representative of the industry in their respective countries.

FIDIC, as an international federation, therefore represents the interests of  some one million consulting engineers, and thereby the majority interest of the consulting engineering industry, world-wide.

National Member Associations generally have permanently staffed Secretariats. Many publish directories of companies and organizations related to the consulting engineering industry in their country. They also organize activities, so the national Member Associations are generally the best place to start with if you are seeking information about consulting engineers in a specific country.

Full contact details of the FIDIC national Member Associations are given in the Directory

FIDIC groups national Member Associations in the Asia-Pacific region and in Africa by regions. In the Americas and Europe, there are regional federations with which FIDIC cooperates closely. News and information about these regional groupings are accessed via FIDIC.org Regions. This regions area also provides a convenient entry point for locating member firms based in the various regions.

Details about the procedures to be followed for national Associations to apply for Member Association membership and to remain members, are maintained in Forums. The FIDIC Statutes provide the legal framework for membership, and FIDIC has published Guidelines for the Constitution of a National Member Association.
