program
notes
The
program for FIDIC 2000 has been planned with special
support and cooperation from the Association of Japanese
Consulting Engineers (AJCE) and the China National
Association of Engineering Consultants (CNAEC), and will
focus on the business opportunities and challenges at the
start of the new millennium. The conference will explore the
engineering business communitys ability to respond
to a worldwide demand for sustainability of both
natural resources and the work we do to create the built
environment.
Emphasis
throughout the conference will be placed on creating an
"interactive" dialogue among participants,
speakers and panel members with special opportunities
that will encourage the involvement of younger
professionals in the industry. The program will feature roundtables where participants can freely
exchange ideas on improving business practices and
solving management issues. Overview remarks will be made
by speakers from around the world. Speakers
and panel participants represent insights on environmental issues, financing of
infrastructure work, productivity of the future workforce,
and the business role of the engineering community in the
next century.
The
conference will leave a special, on-going challenge for
the consulting engineering community and partner
associations to take the lead on sustainability
issues, and to carry this important work forward at
future FIDIC conferences, notably FIDIC 20001 in Montreux, Switzerland.
