Business Practices: FIDIC Activities

Richard Kell
Chair, Business Practices Committee

The FIDIC Business Practices Committee (BPC) has a mission:

To achieve Best Practice in the businesses of the member firms of Member Associations of FIDIC

The BPC is currently working on four issues which are absolutely vital to our businesses in the changing world in which we operate:

Selection and Appointment

Always the No. 1 priority for consulting engineers.

Quality of Construction

If the reports of falling standards prove to be true, then consultants, clients, the public and contractors of good quality are all at risk. What is the situation? And what can we do about it?

Government as an Informed Client

Or is it, in the world where increasingly non-engineers are calling the tune - uninformed clients. It has been said that some clients no longer know what they don’t know!

Privately Financed Initiatives

This seems to be the way forward. But what are the risks and pitfalls, particularly if the client is uninformed? What are the opportunities, and what role can the consulting engineer really play in PFI?

If you have experience or views to contribute on any or all of these issues, or if you want to learn from the experts, you are welcome to join the BPC at the workshop on Tuesday morning, 10.30 - 12.00.
