The UsitawiNetwork: The International Service Club for Sustainable Development

Willy Mayer
The UsitawiNetwork

Sustainable development is development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. (Brundtland Report 1987)

UsitawiNetwork, the international service club for sustainable development, is a forum for far-sighted, responsible leaders in business, science, politics, administration, and culture.

The UsitawiNetwork is committed to promoting and putting into effect the idea of sustainable management and action, and to supporting or carrying through appropriate projects.

The UsitawiNetwork aims to make a significant contribution to the development and implementation of environmentally sustainable forms of economic activity. It therefore ultimately aims to help create a balance between economic activity, social development and ecology.

The UsitawiNetwork will pursue this purpose by implementing the following principles:

  • Establishing a global network of leaders who commit themselves to serve the community by supporting the club's overall purpose;

  • Encouraging responsible and ethical behavior among members vis-à-vis fellow human beings, our common environment, and future generations;

  • Promoting and acknowledging sustainable and eco-efficient behavior in the private and public sectors;

  • Making available knowledge, experience, work capacity and financial means to avoid or solve problems that arise as a consequence of economic activities and global population growth;

The UsitawiNetwork supports:

Projects which promote, spread and put into effect the idea of sustainable management.

Projects which encourage economic and social development, taking ecological factors into account and providing scope for personal responsibility and initiative.

Projects which improve the situation of the biosphere and recognize, eliminate or at least reduce potential sources of risk to ecosystems.

Projects which promote the economical use of resources, for example by enhancing efficient consumption and by safeguarding renewability.
