Introduction

Globalization is one of the main concerns for consulting engineering firms. Participants will develop a list of requirements for delivering services on an international basis from a local organization.

  • How can partnerships be used to ensure that local firms present the right mix of skills to their clients on sustainable development issues?
  • How does the reality of globalization compare with the picture presented by the keynote speaker for the World Trade Organization?

  • Identify and discuss the issues, barriers to success.
  • Discuss the opportunities for engineering design to be done out of country.

    • United Nations Development Programme speaker to examine the UNDP Millennium Programme as test for sustainability in a globalised environment

  • Global business
    • Representative of a consulting engineering company that has delivered sustainability services internationally. from firms in countries with advanced infrastructures capable of addressing global business to speak on the opportunities and challenges of globalisation to a developed consulting engineering firm 
    • Emerging global players from India and China to speak on how to develop capacity for the global market and to talk about the business model that has worked best in China.
    • Those areas that have difficulty resisting globalisation (Africa, Third World) to address whether globalisation is a curse or cure.
