FIDIC Accredited Trainer Development Programme

 Introduction
The FIDIC Accredited Trainer Development Programme, part of the FIDIC International Training Programme (ITP), aims to bring experienced professionals nominated by FIDIC national Member Associations to the FIDIC Accredited National Trainer level. These FIDIC Accredited National Trainers would be available:
  • to coordinate and act as FIDIC Accredited Trainers for National Training Programme (NTP) events or FIDIC Accredited events organised by their national association;
  • to act as FIDIC Accredited Trainers for training seminars, courses and workshops organised by the FIDIC International Training Programme (ITP).

The main targets are two-day training courses for 50-70 participants and 2-3 day Intensive Training Courses for 20-25 participants.

Training modules for both ITP events and national FIDIC Accredited events are taken from the FIDIC Contracts and Agreement Training Manual and from the FIDIC Business Practice Training Manual.

 FIDIC Accredited National Trainers
The benefits for FIDIC Accredited National Trainers:
  • the trainer can be announced as “accredited by FIDIC”;
  • authorised to sign an attendance certificate as “FIDIC Accredited Trainer”;
  • authorised to incorporate text and artwork from FIDIC documents in presentation overheads and in training materials;
  • advised by FIDIC on a regular basis of developments in FIDIC;
  • given priority by FIDIC when requests are received for in-house training;
  • can make use of FIDIC’s administrative procedures whereby FIDIC finalises discussions on fees and expenses, and invoices an event organiser while making immediate payment to the accredited trainer;
  • if an accredited trainer is used by a NTP training event or by a training programme organised by a national Member Association or in partnership with an association, the event or programme can be announced as a FIDIC accredited event or programme, provided FIDIC agrees the format and content. The event or programme is also authorised to use the FIDIC logo on certificates of attendance.

The requirements for FIDIC Accredited National Trainers are:

  • Well spoken
  • Fluent, and able to train, in English for the ITP
  • Competent and committed trainers
  • International project experience
  • Engineer, or at least a related professional
  • Available for training
  • No conflict of interest

  • Professionally active
  • For FIDIC training modules, trains exclusively for the FIDIC National and International Training Programmes

 Procedure
Candidates nominated by a FIDIC Member Association are brought to the international level of FIDIC Accredited Trainer. The procedure is as follows:
  • Invited by FIDIC.
  • CV sent to FIDIC.
  • FIDIC invites Member Association to nominate the trainer.
  • Nominee demonstrate training experience.
  • FIDIC seeks recommendation from colleagues.
  • FIDIC organises attendance in at least one ITP course covering the FIDIC training module/s envisaged for the trainer.
  • FIDIC organises the participation in the training for at least one ITP course (approximately 25% of programme) covering the FIDIC training module/s envisaged for the trainer.
  • FIDIC organises access to the relevant FIDIC training module/s (course notes - the module chapter of the relevant training manual; base set of slides; associated resources: programme outline for an ITP training course)
  • Nominee agrees to the exclusive use of FIDIC training materials for FIDIC ITP and FIDIC Member Association training programmes.
  • Nominee submits to FIDIC any proposed modifications to the course notes and the base set of slides for comment.

 Financial support
FIDIC sponsors participation in the Accredited Trainers Development Programme and will, in some cases, aim to recover costs from organisers of national training events that make use of the FIDIC Accredited Trainer and the FIDIC training materials. The main cost covered by the programme are:
  • for participation in one ITP training course, registration fee, travel and expenses for one ITP course
  • for training at one ITP course: travel and expenses
  • a management/mentoring fee to training supplier who undertakes to include a trainee in the ITP training course;
  • for the transfer, familiarisation and any required customisation of FIDIC training modules.

 Transfer of training materials
Accredited trainers need to acquire access to approved training materials. All FIDIC ITP training courses are based on training manual modules. A training module comprises:
  • Manual chapter text for scope that serves as course notes
  • Programme outline
  • Presentation slides
  • Cases studies/worked examples with description
  • Resources
  • Notes

There are two possibilities, assuming that individual trainers, since they are not training suppliers, do not have the resources to own, develop and maintain training materials:

  • FIDIC owned
  • FIDIC Accredited Training Supplier owned

FIDIC owned

In some cases, FIDIC has developed a module that meets the requirements and scope specified by the training manual module. Under a licence agreement, FIDIC will  transfer the FIDIC-owned training resources to either an individual trainer, his or her training organisation or to his or her Member Association for exclusive use in training courses organised by the FIDIC National and International Training Programme.

FIDIC Accredited Training Supplier owned

Several FIDIC Training Modules are supplied as courses by FIDIC accredited training suppliers. For these modules, the FIDIC Accredited Trainer Development Programme will arrange for transfer of the accredited modules to a trainer, his or her training organisation or his or her Member Association for use by the FIDIC Accredited Trainer under licence.
