27 - 29 April 2006
A Dispute Assessment Workshop for those applying to the FIDIC President's List of Approved Dispute Adjudicators.
Woodlands Park Hotel, Stoke D'Abernon, Surrey, England

:: Online registration :: Offline registration form

Applicants to the FIDIC President's List of Approved Adjudicators need to successfully complete an Adjudicators Assessment Workshop.

Applications to participate in a workshop are assessed and applicants are notified if they meet the criteria for participation in the workshop. Information on how to apply for an assessment workshop is available online at www.fidic.org/dab.

Applications should be sent to the FIDIC Secretariat not later than 30 March 2006 for pre-selection by the Adjudicators' Assessment Panel.

The next assessment workshop takes place on 27-29 April 2006 at the Woodlands Park Hotel, Stoke D'Abernon, Surrey, KT11 3QB, England; www.handpicked.co.uk

Successful applicants are asked to book their accommodation with the hotel reservations department. Accommodation has been secured only until the end of March 2006 so early booking is advised. A special rate has been negotiated at £185/night including breakfast and dinner from Wednesday 26th to Friday 28th April. Lunches on the 27th and 28th are included in the assessment fee. Please ask for Vicky between 09.30 and 16.30 weekdays, mentioning FIDIC Assessment; Tel.: +44 (0)1372 843933; fax +44 (0)1372 843013.

Successful applicants are further advised that evening homework will be required and are thus encouraged to stay at the hotel venue where the assessment workshop to takes place.
- Peter Chapman, Chair
- Igor Leto
- Gordon Jaynes
- Arrival recommended on Wednesday 26 April
- Registration/Presentations at 09.00 on Thursday, 28 April
- Assessment Workshop, Thursday and Friday 28/29 April
The assessment workshop permits the candidates to refer to the FIDIC Construction Contract and candidates should bring their own copy. You might also find help in the FIDIC Contracts Guide and it would certainly be worth having to hand the FIDIC Plant and Design-Build Contract  and EPC/Turnkey Contract  as well.

Copies of the FIDIC contracts and guides will NOT be available at the workshop. Documents can be ordered from the FIDIC Bookshop (www.fidic.org/bookshop or email: fidic.pub@fidic.org; Tel: +41 22 799 49 05; fax: +41 22 799 49 01)
The APA and FIDIC wish to make it very clear that the assessment workshop in April is not a training event in the traditional sense. If you wish to learn about FIDIC contracts, learn how to adjudicate, or learn how to serve on DABs (or become a DAB member) the workshop will be a disappointment. The workshop aims at assessing candidates’ knowledge and ability (of FIDIC contracts in general and the operation of the dispute resolution clauses and of a DAB) and consists of a series of written examinations and case studies, ending with a personal interview. It is important that all candidates understand what will happen at the workshop and not be under any misconception as to its content and aim. Almost all the time you will spend at the workshop will involve some sort of testing of your abilities.

The assessment permits the candidates to refer to the FIDIC Construction Contract and candidates should bring their own copy.

Please bring your own writing pads, writing implements, etc. You may also prefer to bring a laptop computer with you if you prefer to type out your answers - the assessors would certainly prefer type-written answers if your handwriting is unclear. Also, please bring a name badge for your personal use during the assessment. Prizes for the most original!

You will be kept very busy at the assessment workshop and there will be no time for you to indulge in social events. This is not meant to sound heartless, but the assessors would not want candidates making arrangements to socialise during the evenings of the assessment workshop only to find that the overnight work does not permit social time-out. Most of you will have served on dispute boards and will thus know the pressure and anti-social hours that are, at times, necessary.

All assignments given to you are for your personal execution and group work/discussions will not be permitted. Those of you who are staying at the Woodland Park Hotel should find adequate working facilities in the hotel bedrooms. Those staying elsewhere will need to ensure they will have adequate facilities to execute the overnight work.

You will be assigned an interview time at the commencement of the assessment workshop.  Should the times selected give you any difficulties, it is open for a candidate to swap with another candidate.  The assessors will expect each candidate at the specified time unless such an exchange has been arranged.  The assessors will not arrange any changes to the specified times, it being a matter for the candidates.

The assessors (APA faculty), all of whom are giving their time voluntarily, will have a lot to consider after the workshop and it will be some time before all the assessments are completed and candidates are notified of the results of their assessment.

Finally, we intend to commence the assessment workshop with registration at 09.00 on the Thursday (27th April). The room allocated to the assessment will be on a notice board in the hotel reception area. FIDIC is extremely pleased to note the high calibre of expertise available in the marketplace, but wishes to remind candidates that not all of you will necessarily pass the rigorous examination.
The workshop is organized by FIDIC Fédération Internationale des Ingénieurs -Conseils
Fee: Euro 1100 (includes assessment workshop and two lunches)
Cancellations: in the case of cancellations, at Euro 150 administration fee will be retained and the remainder refunded, less any bank charges.
Registration: please register online (see "Online registration" link above)
