| The FIDIC Contract Conditions | |
| FIDIC has, over the years, issued a number of standard documents for use on
construction projects. The contracts which are currently in most common use
around the world are: the Conditions of Contract for Construction; the Conditions of Contract for Plant and Design-Build;
the Conditions of Contract for EPC/Turnkey Projects. These one, two and three-day seminars have been designed to offer an in-depht knowledge of the use of the FIDIC contracts currently in use. | 28.03.2008 Foundation Course: A general introduction to the administration of the FIDIC Conditions. (Module 1 short) This course provides a basic outline on the FIDIC conditions, their linguistic understanding, the relationship between the various clauses and fundamental principles, as well as an outline to the foundations of international ventures. Seminar Plan:
This course will be held in German only. 18-19.04.2008I. Principal Course: The fundamentals of work using the Red and Yellow Books. (Module 1) This two-day seminar presents the essential content of the Red and Yellow Books, the manner in which they should be understood in a national context (by reference to the applicable law), as well as in the context of private international law. It thus covers the fields of contracts for construction and plant and design-build. The seminar introduces specialised notions encountered within the FIDIC contracts and explains their fundamental concepts and mechanisms. The main clauses will be commented within their context and illustrated by means of practical examples. Special emphasis will be given to topics such as measurement and valuation in the measurement contract, the lump-sum system and the engineer's role. This seminar may be combined in a cumulative or alternative manner with Principal course II. Seminar Plan:
This course will be held in German only. 26-27.09.2008I. In-depth Course: Claims and disputes. (Module 2) This two-day seminar will enhance your knowledge as to the various claims in relation to time extensions, repayment of supplementary costs and profit, as well as rights flowing from the contract. This seminar examines the requirements for a claim, the procedure to follow in order to assert a claim as well as the principles behind the dispute resolution procedure. The course content is structured taking account of typical circumstances which may be encountered in practice. After an introduction on claims, the handling of unforeseeable events shall be studied. This will be followed by an explanation on practical questions which may arise on the workings and activities of the DAB in a number of typical situations. Seminar Plan:
This course will be held in German only. 17-18.10.2008II. In-depth Course: Adjudication preparation. (Module 2) This two-day seminar will enhance your knowledge on the engineer's activities according to the FIDIC conditions, on the procedures to be followed in FIDIC contracts, on the duties and means of communication, as well as the duties to provide documentation. Furthermore, the adjudicator's basic activities will be systematically studied, namely procedural questions but also an introduction to the adjudicator's right to remuneration as well as requirements emanating directly from the role of adjudicator such as those of impartiality and competence. This course will be held in German only. 28-29.11.2008Special Course FIDIC DBO Form This course will be held in German only. 12-14.02.2009III. In-depth Course: Adjudicator Assessment. (Module 3) This three-day seminar will perfect the adjudicator training stage. The soon-to-be adjudicator will be prepared in a comprehensive and thorough way in view of taking a final examination, which will take place at the end of the seminar. The adjudicator’s activities will be presented by means of practical cases. The minimum entry requirements to enable taking this examination are the mandatory attendance to one of the Principal Courses and to all of the In-depth Courses. Seminar Plan:
