 Welcome
Welcome FIDIC, the International Federation of Consulting Engineers (the acronym stands for the French version of the name) represents globally the consulting engineering industry. As such, the Federation promotes the business interest of firms supplying technology-based intellectual services for the built and natural environment.
 
 Organization
Organization FIDIC activities are carried out by committees, task forces and forums appointed by the Executive Committee and mainly composed of volunteers. The Executive Committee is elected by the General Assembly to carry out the work of the Federation. Members propose to the General Assembly for election each year a President (currently Dr John Boyd), a President-Elect or Vice-President (currently Gregs Thomopulos) and a Treasurer (currently Flemming Pedersen). The Executive Committee is responsible for the Secretariat, managed by a Managing Director (currently Enrico Vink), that carries out the federation's work.
 
 Ethics, Policies and Statutes
Ethics, Policies and Statutes Code of ethics: details of the fundamental principles to which all FIDIC member associations subscribe.
 
Policy statements: FIDIC’s policy on issues relevant to the conduct of consulting engineers.
 
FIDIC Statutes: FIDIC’s Statutes (in English, French, German and Spanish) were accepted by members as new Statutes in 2005.

Engineering Our Future: FIDIC's strategy, vision and mission were articulated in the report Engineering Our Future 2004.

Business Plan: FIDIC prepares an annual Business Plan.
 
Annual Review: FIDIC publishes a 12-page annual report.

 Members
Members Companies and organizations belonging to FIDIC national Member Associations may announce themselves as FIDIC members, and use the FIDIC logo.
 
Founded in 1913, FIDIC membership today numbers 75 Member Associations representing some 1 million professionals. Full details of national associations are in the FIDIC Directory. They are also listed under Regions.
 
Members are generally national Member Associations. Companies and organizations may join FIDIC as Affiliate Members if they do not qualify or cannot join a Member Association, or as Associate Members if there is no national Member Association  (see Information sheet in PDF) if their country has no national Member Association.
 
FIDIC member firms are firms that belong to a FIDIC national Member Association. These firms enjoy many benefits PDF 0.2 MB.
 
Individuals do not belong to FIDIC, except as national Associate Members in countries that do not have a national Member Association. Associate Members are charged with helping to establish establishing a national association.

FIDIC has a cooperation agreement (PDF 0.1 MB) with the European Federation of Engineering Consultancy Associations (EFCA) and a memorandum of understanding with the Pan American Federation of Consultants (FEPAC). FIDIC has regional groupings for Africa (GAMA) and Asia-Pacific (ASPAC).

FIDIC Logo FIDIC encourages the use of its logo by national Member Associations and their member firms under strictly controlled and clearly defined conditions
 
 Activities
Activities FIDIC activities and products are developed by committees and task forces. FIDIC Forums encourage debate that leads to the formulation of new tasks.
 
Most committees, tasks forces and forums have an Internal website at www.fidic.ch that stores documents and provides online services. Several also help manage Forum websites that maintain information and resources about FIDIC activities.
 
A Young Professionals Forum Steering Committee helps monitor an online web discussion forum.
 
 Surveys
Survey Strategic Survey: FIDIC's Strategic Review Task Force undertook in 2004 a  strategic survey of the consulting industry in member countries as part of a full five-year strategic review.
 
Annual Survey: EFCA members are asked to return the FIDIC-EFCA Annual Survey forms by 15 May. FIDIC members are sent forms in August. The 2005 survey included association best practices and association membership. 
  
Industry Surveys: Surveys of various aspects of business practice, industry activity and organization are organized on a regular basis. In 2007, there are Client-Consultant Agreements and Business Integrity surveys.

Our Location The FIDIC Secretariat location is at the World Trade Center, Geneva Airport, Switzerland.
 
 Products
Products The FIDIC Bookshop publishes international contracts and business practice documents, organizes the industry's premier international Conference, arranges seminars and other events published in a Diary, coordinates activities worldwide through Regions, liaises with the international lending agencies, strives to maintain high ethical and professional standards, works to strengthen the consulting industry in developing countries, and aims to provide business practice resources based on Forums for international business.
 
In addition to publications to promote the consulting engineering industry's business practice in areas such as international Contracts and agreements, Business Integrity Management, Quality Management, Environment Management, Project Sustainability Management and Risk Management, FIDIC actively promotes the development of the industry through committees and tasks forces on Sustainable Development and Capacity Building.
 
 Events and Training
Activities FIDIC organizes conference, seminars and training courses in association with Member Associations and service providers in all areas of business practice covered by the FIDIC training manuals Guide to Practice - the business of a professional services firm and Contracts Manual.
 
The FIDIC Annual Conference is the consulting engineering industry's premier international conference that reviews the latest in business practice and facilitates networking with the industry's main clients.
 
 Representation
Activities FIDIC meets regularly with the multilateral development banks and organizes the BIMILACI Biennial Meeting of the Consulting Industry with the Lending Agencies.
 
FIDIC publishes the MDB Harmonised Edition of the Construction Contract on behalf of Participating Banks, including the World Bank.
